KIOXIA Announces PM6 SAS SSD — Industry’s First 24G SAS SSD for Servers/Storage
KIOXIA (formerly Toshiba Memory America, Inc.) is announcing the PM6 SAS SSD for enterprise server / storage applications. The PM6 represents KIOXIA’s 6th generation of enterprise SAS SSDs, and makes them the industry’s first supplier of 24G SAS technology.
24G SAS doubles the data throughput of KIOXIA’s predecessor 5th generation of SAS SSDs, and additionally includes new enhancements and features, achieving new application performance levels. KIOXIA is the only SSD supplier able to offer protection and recovery from two simultaneous die failures within an SSD. The PM6 series further enhances KIOXIA’s reputation for best-in-class performance and reliability in SAS SSDs.
According to Alvaro Toledo, KIOXIA’s vice president of SSD marketing and product planning, “KIOXIA has one of the broadest SSD portfolios in the industry, and we are proud to lead the transition to SAS-4. By building our PM6 around 24G SAS technology, we’re once again raising the bar for enterprise storage performance, reliability and data protection.”
Utilizing KIOXIA’s 96-layer BiCS FLASH™ 3D TLC flash memory, the PM6 series of SAS SSDs attains industry-leading SAS SSD sequential read speeds of up to 4300MB/s, representing an improvement of more than 2 x over existing SAS drives. Capacities of up to 30.72 TB also represents the industry’s highest capacity 2.5″ SAS SSD.
Key features of the PM6 family of 24G SAS SSDs include:
- Flexible configuration options: either single and wide port, or dual-port for high availability.
- Full range of endurance choices for various workloads: 1DWPD (drive write per day) for read-intensive applications, 3DWPD for mixed-use, and 10DWPD for write-intensive usage scenarios.
- Support for multistream write reduces write amplification and extends endurance.
- A full suite of security options is available: Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE), TCG Enterprise Self-Encrypting Drive (SED), and FIPS 140-2 certification.
KIOXIA is indicating that PM6 drives are available now for qualification and evaluation. For more information, you can visit KIOXIA’s enterprise SSD products page .
